Under Armour All-American cornerback Darrell Givens has decommitted from Ohio State and is now pledged to Penn State, ESPN affiliate Web site Bucknuts.com
reports.
He said of the decision, "Ohio State and Penn State both had all the things I'm looking for. The only thing that swayed me to Penn State was playing time. I can play early at Penn State." ESPN's Billy Tucker commented on the switch, "Givens didn't give us any kind of indication this decision was in his future on Saturday morning when we spoke with him at the Nike Football Training Camp at PSU (where he performed well)." "Big land for Penn State but it seems like the Under Armour All-American corner can get caught up in the moment when he visits schools, and I wouldn't bet the house PSU is Givens' final stop. If the commitment does stick, the Nittany Lions are getting one heck of a cornerback." "The ESPN 150 Watch List prospects blends great size, speed and athleticism at the corner position and is arguably one of the more instinctive players at the position this year. Showed well-rounded skills in the game films we viewed and is versed in a variety of different coverages. Givens could provide good scheme versatility during his career at Penn State with his ability to also play safety if his rangy frame continues to physically develop." "Givens is a much needed land at corner for Penn State but the Buckeyes shouldn't panic. C.J. Barnett (Clayton, Ohio/Northmont) is a very talented prospect and while an infusion of young talent is needed at the position, OSU should have no problem finding another talented corner to bring in alongside him by next February." Additionally, Givens' high school teammate, safety Malcolm Willis, is also committed to Penn State.
